The Basics
Why Focused Work?
- Focused Work was created to help people be super productive all the time, and avoid burnout.
- Michael, the developer (me writing this), struggled with this in recent years, especially when I had too much on my plate. I’d sit at my desk for hours without taking breaks and eventually would feel overwhelmed or my concentration would drift off. Before I knew it, I was burnt out.
- I had tried other focus timer apps to curb this bad habit, but found most to be inflexible with how I worked (especially across different kinds of tasks) and I’d ignore the imposed rules.
- Thus, I created this app to scratch my itch! (back in March 2020)
How can it help?
- Focused Work is purpose-built for people who find it hard to be consistently productive, and for those who struggle with structuring their time effectively.
- The app lets you run timed focus sessions that help with dividing tasks into smaller parts. Tasks become broken up into Work, Break, and Plan stags, which are effective for studying, coding, content writing, reading, and much more.
- You can simply start a Work timer and take a Break when you need, or if you need something more on-rails, alternatively you can create a structured session which lets you choose your routine, the duration of each stage, and more.
- You can also configure sessions to ask what you’d like to focus on before starting the timer, which forces you to consider your goal or intent for the session.
- The app also sends you fun periodic reminders during a session, which remind you to focus and help snap you out of a distraction.
